5th Grade Lighthouses
6th Grade Class Syllabus
6th Grade Art/Course Syllabus
Welcome to the Maltby Art Room!
The next nine weeks will be an exciting creative journey.
In 6th Grade Art you will be learning about the ingredients to create a successful work of art called the elements of art. We will see how some artists used these elements in their artwork and you will get the chance to use them in your own projects! In this class we will share a variety of art experiences and create projects in several different media such as paints, marker, clay, oil and chalk pastels.
Projects may include:
Elements of Art Packet, Shoe Project, Hard Edge Action Painting, Henri Rousseau Jungle Painting, clay clock and clay bowl
Sketchbook
At the beginning of the quarter you will be given a sketchbook that has 15 total assignments and a cover page. The sketchbook is worth a total of 160 points (ten points per page). Two sketches a week should be completed. The sketchbook helps reinforce what is learned in class and gives you an opportunity for more creative time. Due to the every other day rotation of the class, sketchbooks may need to be worked on at home. It is important to note that the assignments in the sketchbook should be worked on carefully and not rushed. Sketchbooks will be collected at the end of the quarter.
Materials
Students should come prepared for class with a pencil and their planner. The planner is needed to write down important notes and due dates for art class. There is also an optional extras fee. In 6th grade art students learn about molding of clay. A clay mask and a clay bowl will be made. There are special metallic paints, gemstones, pipe cleaners, yarn, raffia and pom poms that can be added to the mask. There is a small $5.00 charge for these extra items. These items are not included in the art budget.
Rules, Responsibilities and Grading Policy
The art room rules, responsibilities and grading policy are on the attached sheet. Please read over all of the information, sign on the agreement page where indicated and return to school.
